June 1st

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 19 degrees, Calgary 18 degrees”

Says 18 today but it is 9am and 15 already with it being bright and sunny. Just like a summer day or close to anyways. A long time coming. !! Didn’t last long as by the afternoon overcast but still warm. By evening the first mosquito bite and a rain shower

I missed a few days of May being busy so will have a couple of days squished in here.

Audrey had asked on our behalf if the board would allow us a few windows for our dance pavilion and library. Luckily they said yes so we loaded up 8 large units on Wednesday. Heavy lifting the day before golf is never good. We took off the liners which really helped with the weight but 8 is all we could fit into the volunteers truck. We were lucky a young lady with a place out at Oasis had a company 1/2 ton and was able to help us.

Once these are installed they will look great. I do hate the fact the park is “cheap” so we will not get the “best ” look out of them due to cost cutting material and design. I do not like to do things this way but no choice.

I had my men’s golf on Thursday. Very few games in due to the weather so I didn’t have high expectations. I was right. I still played quite well but with a 8 and a 7 no chance to win money. Greats shots mixed with a few bad. Two slices and I am sure it is the newer shaft as before I had them eliminated but I will deal with it, again. My handicap keeps creeping up which makes it a little easier. A fun day with my group again so well worth the agony of defeat.

After golfing sitting around talking about our great scores I noticed something very funny. This is the menu board at Turney Valley Golf Club. I have told this story before but the menu board brought back the memory.

“Memories”

The story behind the menu board is hilarious to me anyways and you may have had to be there to feel the same. I was sitting on the outside deck with the guys when our waitress comes over for our order. She is a beautiful young women from the east coast and is always a fun waitress. It just so happens she was well endowed. She come over to our table and I innocently ask ” Do you have jugs” ( background in the States they call them jugs but in Canada it has been changed to pitchers and I was just back from AZ) The tables of guys kill themselves laughing and say out loud.” Larry look at her !!! ” Needless to say I was a touch embarrassed but she was fine with it and laughed along.

AND to this day they still call them JUGS ! Love Turner Valley and jugs.

Jessica had a business meeting in Calgary and needed a babysitter so she brought the boys up to Calgary for us to look after them. That night we ordered Chinese with Cor & Tor and Jackson who came over to watch the hockey game. I will say Chinese is expensive. We could have gone to a sit down restaurant for the price we paid. But it was a lot of fun with them there and watching the Oiler game. Plus the food was excellent and I love Chinese leftovers.

Speaking of the Oilers. NO OTHER TEAM has squandered away first round picks like Edmonton. Luckiest team ever on the draws. They should/ could have been so much better with better management. Lucky also to have two of the best players in the league on the same team.

The big screen media room works well for this.

I worked all day at the lot trying to get it ready for the Keys to visit. It has been such a horrible spring weather wise, and with the park negligent in getting the irrigation up and running so we can clean up, plus with Jackie ran off her feet with errands and commitments we haven’t had much done. I think I see light at the end of the tunnel.

I needed a couple of little things and luckily Rona had some Dracaena. All is good

Slowly getting it ready but it will not be perfect or 100% clean but livable. I tried to wash the motorhome but I will wait for a bit.

I stayed out overnight, had a great sleep after consuming too much Chinese food. Up in the morning to the beautiful sun and sat outside with my coffee in the warmth which I love and is very pleasant.

Then back to work getting more things done. Jackie showed up near noon and made me a wonderful sandwich for lunch. We worked together for hours getting things up to her standards and new stuff done.

As we haven’t had much time here we could work for a a week everyday and just about be done. I do hate the stickies and I hate the dust from the road. Otherwise i love it at Oasis . And it is looking great again for another year start.

It is amazing how two people can get so much more done working together. Having said that I am tired, well my back is but happy to get it done the best possible.

Thought of the Day

My wife and I married for better or worse!! I couldn’t have done better and she couldn’t have done worse!

June 2nd -June 4th

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 16 degrees, Calgary 16 degrees”

I picked a average number to use for the temperature. This is June 4th already and perhaps ONE DAY in 2024 I can call a nice spring day. The weather in 2024 spring has been horrible. The worst I remember. For the last three days very strong winds and cooler temperatures again. As I am writing this my one finger is white and this is at a supposed 13 degrees but with 40 kms gust. Quite annoying not getting good temperatures. Plus the wind causes havoc makes it chilly.

Our neighbor Rick came out with all of his eavestrough parts that I sent him a list to buy from so we started off hanging eavestrough, We had 30 ft of trough to hang with one downpipe and barrel connector. I figured a 1 1/2″ drop would visually look ok and provide a quick release of the water. Everything went together well but I had one small issue, well two small ones. The down drop basket I installed bottom up even though I prefer top up. I copied the system we used on mine but I do prefer the other option. When we down to the last couple of elbows Fred arrives and help navigate with male/female elbow connectors being reversed. All done and look great and should work perfect.

The last three days have been a lot of fun though. A great time.

Fred & Terry came for a visit and it was a wonderful time even considering the adverse conditions. We had some sun, lots of wind and a some rain for the three days.

Sunday evening Fred arrives and after getting them settled in and visiting we decide to head to Strathmore to watch the Oiler game. I made reservations at The Station expecting it to be swamped. The Station is a huge pub and restaurant but was barely a 1/4 full. Shocked but glad as we had a table right up front to the big screen.

They were short staffed as most businesses appear to be as everyone doesn’t want to work unless it is from home but the young guy worked his butt off and did ok considering what he had to handle. You can see the effort even if the results are not what you want. He did well.

First thing was to get him to turn the sound on for the game. He had to phone the “boss” to get instructions but got it done. LOL

Lots of time expired between drinks and food but it was to be expected. The food portioning was massive. I can’t remember such big meals. And the food was excellent. I had the veal cutlet which was exceptional. Guess what Jackie had? Fred and Terry’s meals were great also and Terry even ordered from the seniors menu and still could not finish her meal.

It was a fun game to watch. I do not like McCry Baby ( hate his personality or lack of, his ignorance, attitude and arrogance ) but his goal could only be described as sensational. Amazing goal and effort.

Great game and the Oilers are in the finals. I like Edmonton but the city and fan base is one of a kind and are quite annoying with their jubilation. I am hoping for a 7 game series going into overtime with Mathew Tkachuk scoring the winning goal. If Edmonton does win good for them, nice a Canadian team won, but then City of Champions signs will be re-erected, the fans will think they have the greatest team ever etc etc. If the Oilers do win though the team will be imploded for next year with the loss of Connor and Leon potentially. Careful what you wish for.

At the lot we played numerous card games. I do have to say right now I did not win any of the games over the three days. Fred won but he also set the biggest number for losing. In 5 Crowns Fred achieved the record if 232 points. Terry was happy as she was the previous title holder but Fred says away games don’t count.

On Monday Terry, Jackie and I went golfing. Fred’s hip was killing him. A mixed bag of weather but nice enough and not enough wind to affect our game. It was a fun afternoon golfing. I find it IMPOSSIBLE to score well NOT knowing the distance to the flag. Every green has a carry with a hazard in front or behind and with no markers, no GPS etc it is all guess and that isn’t easy. My best shot of the day was a Par 4, 245 yards dog-leg left that I cut the corner and landed on the green. A small green completely surrounded by hazard so I can’t take that risk again but it was sweet. I did end up with a 37 on the nine.

The course was in great shape and the greens in exceptional condition as it is free lifetime golf per say..

Games, talking , walks and a pork roast supper were awesome.

Still continued issues with the power here unfortunately. Drives me nuts and it is risky.
Fred & Terry said they had great sleeps and relaxed. Fred was up early each morning and had the coffee on while sitting outside. I moved my router into the gazebo and it went from 2mbps to 10mbps which is fantastic. Made a huge difference with speed and downloading. Inside the baggage compartment surround by steel dampened the signal substantially. Good change.

They got all fixed up and headed north around 11am.

A very nice fun visit. If they would only not have sold Viewpoint as we are 6 hours apart and they don’t camp anymore so we will see less of them. You need to stay connected as socialization as you age is extremely important. The Keys have been close friends since 1983 ( 41 years)

We cleaned up the shed, first time emptying the portable potty which was very easy and clean plus emptied the sink so all set for the next overnighters.

I thought I would whip into Strathmore to pick up my 2 x 4’s worth $100 I was donating to the park for the windows. A board member and a nice guy met me there and he bought $100 also and we loaded up. Still not enough but a good start.

On the way back with the huge winds I noticed a board coming loose so I stopped on the side of the highway. I left the window open and when the door opened paperwork was flying everywhere. Got it all strapped down again and off the lot.

We figured we may as well start today so Denis and I went about making the new openings and fixing up the wall openings. The wall system of the Pavilion is basically an oversized fence and far from plumb or level so a bit more challenging.

We are installing 6 windows in the building and have two done now and hopefully 4 done tomorrow. I wish we had a few bucks more to make it better but have to live with it. Simple 1 x 2 slats to fill in the gaps for a board and batten look would be good.

Once we get them all in with trim and painted with touchups it will make a huge difference. I am liking it and I am sure the resort will.

The wind today is INCREDIBLE. It has gusted at least 40 kmph all day with tree limbs breaking off, trees swaying and makes you feel like you were in a battle. The horrible spring weather continues with the extra rain and wind we have received.

Another day in the books.

Thought of the Day

I wonder if you fart in your wallet are you allowed to say you have gas money.

June 5th

” Mercury Forecast Edmonton 20 degrees 22kms wind, Calgary 18 degrees 30 kms wind”

Rarely do I feel beaten up but after today I will say that.

I started at 8:30am and worked all day with a 10 minute lunch break ending at 4:30pm. Lifting 175 pound windows up into their openings which turned out to be heavy as we we trying to lift around Lilac trees up close to the building. We created all of the rough openings with treated lumber and a lot of cutting. Huge amount of up and down, then measure and cutting. Add to that the heavy weight and long hours it was a tiring day.

I had a gentleman who is a great guy and easy to work with with a new hip and another gentleman with a bad shoulder. BUT we got it done and it is a drastic change even though we may be worse for wear.

We had one window where we thought it maybe in danger with a golf hole running parallel to it and thought we would put a screen over it. We JUST finished it when I heard this big bang. A golf ball just missed my Jeep and hit the building. The golfer didn’t even say he is sorry. That is annoying to me. So we covered it up temporarily with a sheet of plywood until we can make a cage. Now I have hit the odd house so understand how it can happen but own up to it.

Clean up, done and back to the camper to start cleanup to head home, Jackie did a lot already and lucky for me as my back was totaled. A nights rest and 4 back pills tomorrow for my men’s league. My eyes from cutting sawdust flying in them from the wind feel grindy and hurt.

It is putting lipstick on a pig but it does make the Pavilion look a lot better.

Another productive day done and even though very hard on the body it was enjoyable.

It is my own fault, but two people out of 600 contributed to making this happen just doesn’t seem right when they all will benefit. Being selfish with your commitments and time in a lot of cases is not good and karma has a way of biting. Both Dennis and I did the bulk of the work and each contributed $150 worth of material.

Thought of the Day

Selfish people usually get everything they want except happiness.

June 6th

” Mercury Forecast Edmonton 20 degrees, 22 degrees”

A SUMMER day perhaps the second of this year.

I think most people other than a Edmontonian or transplanted Oiler fans agree with this guy full hearted. It just makes the Oilers hard to cheer for. It is hard as they are Canadian but the media, the fans themselves are one of a kind and really don’t act like the kind gentle Canadians they should behave like. Fights, riots, pole climbing ,breast baring isn’t typical Canadian. This link below has some good points

https://www.facebook.com/watch?v=802203844934040

The new logo the Oilers will now use.

I had hopes I could have a great game but I wasn’t to confident with my tight muscles. It turned out to be bad. It was funny as the pills killed the pain but my tightness did not help my game. I think besides the muscles I just screwed up. I was the only one to get a birdie in our group and in fact I had two birdies. Made $18 today which I was happy with considering how I played.

Loved the weather and loved the golf event just hated the scoring. I am sure teh shaft has a lot to do with it.

Thought of the Day

There is a reason why golfers walk forward to their next shot. Its to move on!

June 7th-8th

” Mercury Forecast Edmonton 9 degrees, Calgary 14 degrees”

You see the June heading and we are hitting 9 to 14 degrees. SICK. Yet the media lie to us and say we have a warmer spring than normal. NOT ! The snow melt hasn’t evens started yet. I remember perhaps 5 days I would call decent and not one that i would call warmer or hot.

Jackie had commitments again so I partially did my budget sheets in the morning. I went to the driving range and concluded that not only is the price of a bucket of balls no ridiculous I also need to change out my driver shaft.

After Jackie completed her tasks and work we headed to Cor & Tor’s and helped them with the garage sale. Some pretty neat stuff, some cool stuff and some special stuff that hopefully sells for them.

We whipped to Caesars for pizza which for a fast cheap meal is good but not delicious.

We got everything moved upstairs to the garage and half organized which they will finish in the morning.

Left the house at 7:30 am to head to Lethbridge to watch Atti play soccer.

I have never being a FORD guy and perhaps am second guessing my decision to buy one. On our way the active stability message appears and engine check light. I tried numerous things but nothing worked. I am going to disconnect the battery and reset to see what happens. I phoned for a service appointment to our dealership and two weeks. I phoned another Ford dealership and not until July. I never wanted to believe in the acronym Fix Or Repair Daily but there could only be two scenarios where this happens. Either a shortage of mechanics or so many broken Fords they can’t keep up. Either case it is dumb. I will phone my private repair shop and see where he is at. Unfortunately some hi-tech stuff like this has to be taken to the dealership due to special tools or equipment needed.

Long story short made it there and back even though annoyed as the car has to be in the shop again.

I love the small town atmosphere. The people are friendly, everyone knows everyone and loads of people out with their kids. There is a unique look to the Raymond crowd. You see a Swedish or Jewish or even a Russian you can guess where they are from. I think there are a lot relatives in Raymond. Close ones. Very similar look to the Utah population. Usually blonde or red head , rounder flatter facial features, bigger forehead all normal fairly good looking features but so similar.

The opposing teams coach sure fits into the category of unique A grown man about 40 ish wearing white capri pants. Either it was dark when he put on his wife’s pants that fit him or he is one of a kind. I never even knew white capri pants were made for a man and if they are, they SHOULD NOT be. Funny. Get the capri guy with the the bright pink lady track suit that is unique.

Atticus’s team played very well winning the game. Atti scored. He is on the larger side to his team mates which works to his favor as they pump into him and they fall. He doesn’t quite have the kicking and aiming down pat but has a blast on the field.

There is team is called the Green Dragons and they have a “fun” coach. She dressed up as a green dragon and should have won best dressed coach award.

They all received participation medals. ( I wont go there ) plus each of them received a drink coupon from Jerry’s and a wonderful soccer ball from Tim Horton’s.

It was a fun game to watch with Atti doing very well.

Jess & Pen have been working on their yard with a lot of success. Loads of work with many new trees and plants that look great plus the border which Penny did a great job on. I am impressed that she used brackets, screws, and 12 inch spikes to hold the 6 x 4’s in place. Nice job.

Remember I said unique to describe Raymond, this was cool. Not allowed anywhere else but Jerry’s is only a drive thru so as a walker you line up in the line with the cars. COOL !

We picked up supper at Scobey’s so now waiting for Game !

June 9th

” Mercury Forecast I am just going to say it sure isn’t spring weather “

June the month of weddings as it is the traditional month. Victoria, my Mom and us all were June weddings.

Today is the 17th year anniversary of our daughter and son-in law Victoria & Corey. It does seem like yesterday that they were wed It also seems odd to see your kids hitting such milestones. Doesn’t make you feel old but makes you realize how fast time flies and how lucky we are to have added such great people to our family.

They look so young !

We actually slept in this morning. You sort of wake up and look at the clock and go wow ! It was nice though.

Notice I am not saying anything about the Oilers. I will say one thing. A Band-Aid with a beard. LOL

We packed our lunch and headed to the lot.

I got the irrigation all set up with just a bit of fine tuning to do which is nice and great if summer ever hits plus even when we are away.

In the afternoon before we were all done our neighbors invited us over for a visit. It ended up being 5 couples. In the sun it was semi warm. A very group of people. Rick’s sister had an amazing accident when her large dog pulled her arm and she ended up breaking it in numerous places. I am not sure if she fell or not but some bad breaks and still going to therapy to try to heal.

Lots of stories about our pasts, politics and general topics were all covered with no conflicts as all 6 couples had similar ideologies. No union thinkers or supporters and no bleeding hearts in the group. Just normal people which was nice. A great day !

I had asked Rick & Michelle for 2 Caesar drinks for hanging their eavestrough which Michelle made today. I give her drink the #1 spot. Talk about going over board with a great drink. I had one baby tomato, two asparagus, roll of sausage, full celery stalk, and a pickle as a garnish. Amazing job and great tasting !!

There is nothing like a impromptu invite and visit to socialize with neighbors. FUN!

Thought of the Day

Not to get technical, But according to chemistry ALCOHOL is a solution.

June 10th

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 21 degrees, Calgary 23 degrees”

A beautiful day finally with decent weather which was shocking without wind or clouds.

I have booked in the Flex at my garage but as expected due to the level of complexity of the on board computer they are going to look at it and advise but will get the oil change and tire rotation done.

I whipped into Home Depot to pick up a few things to build my toilet base as we decided after the Keys visit suggesting it was too low. My idea is 2 x 6 with 1/2 plywood for a base which raises it about 6 inches. I was one corner bead short which is hidden at the back so just paint touch up needed.

It turned out pretty good and will work great.

Jackie commented to make sure there is enough room to sit comfortably and indicated due to me having no ass or hips a women may feel confined in the space. Should I be insulted ?

I weed whacked the neighbors lawn, cut my grass and trimmed and set up the irrigation system heads.

My next door neighbors Bill & Bev invited me over for a drink so I had to stop work. Along came two other neighbors and we all had another great Oasis meeting of the minds. Bill is the gentleman that used to work with Pat Ferris at Western Groceries. We had a blast laughing and talking. Great neighbors on both sides of us.

Got home in time for a quick supper and to watch the game. Flex has to go in first thing in the am so no use staying out at Oasis.

The Oilers played horrible. Mc CryBaby being paid 10 million a year and has 3 shots on net. The whole team sucked including Leon with only 2 shots. BAD ! They better get their act together for next game as it is pretty much do or die.

Thought of the Day

Losing is funny. Lose in the beginning you are off to a bad start. If you lose in the middle you are in a slump and you lose in the end you are choking.

June 11th

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 25 degrees, Calgary 26 degrees”

A busy day. Up early and first thing dropping the Flex off for repair to a small local garage I have used for years. The Ford dealerships could not get me until July. As I said it is just odd they can be that busy so I did a bit of checking.

TSB’s ( technical support bulletin) are car manufacturers way of letting the garages know about an issue with a certain car. They issue these if the problem isn’t going to cost them money or lawsuits. If liability is deemed they will issue a recall instead. A little crooked but fitting for the industry. I am sure the amount of TSB’s is in direct relationship to how busy the dealership shops are.

Turns out we had a TSB for the issue with our Flex. My garage was able to repair it no problem. I hope the replacement is different than the original sensor or we will have the same issue further down the road.

If you remember the motorhome had a MAF sensor issue ( Mass Air Flow sensor) that cost me close to $1000. Today a TSB on a MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor) costing me $500. It is crazy how we have allowed the environmentalists to create havoc for mechanics and our cars. Years ago running a little rich, a little smell, poor mileage and performance could be fixed with one simple screwdriver adjustment or distributor twist. NUTS !

I looked up the TSB’s on Ford cars and I am shocked. Instead of a free recall Ford issues these TSB’s and the cost is directed to the affected owner of a car sold with a KNOWN DEFECT

Ford F150’s have 1668 TSB’s issued, Explorer has 1403 TSB’s issued and Flex has 135 TSB’s issued. I guess I can be grateful for a Flex with only 10% of the TSP’s of a F150, but come on Ford build a better vehicle.

I was very thankful my guy could repair it, got me in next day and only took about 5 hours total. Nice !

So first thing Jackie and I head to my garage to drop off the Flex. We stop at McDonalds for an overly expensive Mc Muffin and hashbrown.

Then Jackie whips to pick up Jackson from school to take him to his dentist for his braces update.

When she returned I headed to Tower Dodge for my free Lifetime Oil change. It is called Express Oil Change and below is the Webster definition.

c(1) faster than normal

Today only 1 hour and 45 minutes for a oil change. They know me so I don’t get the crooked sales pitches for service anymore that I do not need but I am sure they enjoy making me wait and it really doesn’t bother me knowing it is costing them money with my free oil change and not getting another customer up on the rack sooner. Makes me smile as I sit in the lounge watching bad TV knowing they will give paperwork suggesting I throw the Jeep in the junk it is about to fall apart. Them not knowing absolutely everything possible maintenance wise has been done including not have one weep leak even. Just NOT done by them.

I got home and discovered Jackie wasn’t home and without a car. LOL She went shopping with Audrey.

When she got home we headed to pick up the Flex and all done and runs like brand new.

Jackie had quite a day – driving to the service station, driving Jackson to the dentist, driving her Mom to go shopping, and driving back to the garage plus squeezing in work and then grocery shopping after supper. Busy busy girl !

A wonderful BBQ chicken and salad supper tonight.

Ok we hit 26 degrees for a like an hour. While cooking the temperature went from 26 degrees to 14 degrees in a few minutes. And wind hitting 80kph winds. I was cold beside the BBQ. lol A lousy spring.

Thought of the Day

Being popular on Facebook is like sitting at the ‘cool table’ in the cafeteria of a mental hospital.

June 12th

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 15 degrees, Calgary 20 degrees”

Semi nice but with 20 kms plus winds AGAIN today.

Jackie worked first thing this am and then had a doctors appointment with Audrey. She rushed back as we were leaving to visit friends out in Cochrane. Daisy stayed at Audrey’s to make it easy on us to visit.

I made fresh sourdough bread sandwiches for all of us. Fresh bread, cheddar cheese, turkey, honey ham along with all of the condiments in containers. Lettuce, mayo, mustard, tomatoes, salt& pepper, so everyone could customize their sandwich. Jackie threw in a couple of egg salad wraps. We also brought along blueberry and apple strudel for dessert. Turned out wonderful.

Joe & Dianne have been friends for at least 30 years as Dianne used to work with Jackie at Scotia Bank when we first moved to Calgary.

” MEMORIES”

Two vivid memories of our times with Joe & Dianne.

Scotiabank held a staff scramble golf tournament at the High River Golf Course. The four of us were a team in the best ball format. Joe & Dianne were beginner golfers at the time and today in our conversation Dianne said that was her last time she golfed. LOL We came into the clubhouse with a team score of +15. These usually result in a score of about -8 to -15 to win. Needless to say I was confident we were going to win the “horses ass” trophy but luckily ONE other team was worse than us. Jackie and I did win big though as she won Ladies Long Drive and I won Men’s Long Drive that night.

We had decided to go camping at Mt Kidd for a weekend. Joe & Dianne were novice campers. They had a large tent to set up. Jackie & I killed ourselves laughing as the two of them had a argument in trying to get this thing to stand upright. I remember it being hilarious but don’t remember the final solution.

Joe was an artist on the BBQ and was the one that showed me how to cook asparagus the correct way. Every BBQ meal he created was excellent.

We last saw them last year so nice to re connect again. A fun couple. Joe has had the worst luck when it comes to health and I can use him as a poster boy for making sure to get done in life today what you want, as you never know what your future holds. He is in a pretty weak state still today after a heart attack, by pass surgery, sepsis event, and a pneumonia bout all in the last two years. He is a fighter and is making inroads but has a long recovery ahead. I am sure he is at least 80 or more pounds lighter today due to the episodes.

They are camped right now at Bow Rivers Edge in Cochrane which is an exceptional nice campground. They have downsized from a beautiful large home in Rocky Ridge to a condo in Sylvan Lake and are trying to enjoy life.

It was a very nice enjoyable visit with the weather staying semi decent. I do know Jackie & I both smell like campfire so all is good.

Thought of the Day

How did doctors come to the conclusion that exercise prolongs life, for instance the rabbit is always jumping but only lives for around two years, while the turtle that doesn’t exercise at all, lives over 200 years.  So, rest, chill, eat, drink, and enjoy life!

June 13th-14th

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 22 degrees, Calgary 24 degrees”

Two days in a row that could be considered a reasonable spring temperature but both days the wind still had a chill to it.

I had my Men’s league and I am not making the money this year. My golf isn’t as good and the blow up holes on TV are killing me. I golfed overall quite well with at least 5 birdie’s chances within 5 to 10 ft and didn’t make any of them plus the fact I lost two balls. One in the right center of the fairway. That is one drawback of golfing with older guys they have POOR eyesight. Shooting 4 from a long ways back from the green makes it tough not to double bogie or worse. Three holes even brought down to a bogie I would be happy. My partners all made money this time, the sandbaggers. With the poor performance the last few games my cap should increase which should help.

A relatively nice day, wonderful course and fun guys to play with turned out to make a great day.

I still am holding back on bugging my Oiler friends but it is coming. LOL

I whipped out to the lot and worked all day on plants, installed a can crusher, hooked up my irrigation with a new hose, dead headed plants, watered plants, cut grass, trimmed bushes and completed the drain for the sink.

Mosquitos are out in full force after our warmer temperatures in the last few days.

I do not know what clicks in old peoples minds. Today driving in the resort with my window down doing 8 kmph I came upon a neighbor talking to a women and man a few units up from us. I give him a wave and he smiles and waves back then the women yells ” slow down” . This is with my foot off the gas and other foot on the brake that is how slow I was going. I was going to react but instead just moved my hands in a what ever gesture. I would say I was at my lot no more than 4 minutes when my neighbor drives up in his cart with apologies. He says she is always like that and to give it no mind. I am thinking she has no mind. I am glad I didn’t react.

I know when I was a teenager and dropping off a friend and they would say drive away quiet, I would do a full burnout revving at 6k rpm just to bug them. Mention nothing I may have just driven away.

It AMAZES me the lack of common sense, courtesy, the vileness and rudeness along with the lack of patience from people.

If everyone would just chill and be kinder to each other the whole world would be a better place.

I got lots done and enjoyed it with nice temperatures and a slight breeze only.

I made it home early as today is a special day.

Today is Jackie & I’s 44th Wedding Anniversary. It has been an interesting 44 yrs.

  • Courting Jackie was a challenge as her Dad would answer the phone and I would say ” Is Jackie there ?” Response ” Yes” Then the awkward moment before I figured out I had to say “May I speak to her please”.
  • At 17 and 18 years old she had to be home by 11pm. If she asked for additional time the quicker she had to be home after each ask.
  • My first company Christmas party I over indulged and ended up puking full carrots with out a single chew mark in the bathroom sink. Jackie looked after me.
  • My first big promotion from warehouse to inside sales desk I went out with my work buddies and over indulged and semi passed out at Jackie’s parents home in the washroom. One bathroom locked didn’t quite fly for my recovery or her parents.
  • We bought our first home a year before moving out of our parents place . In those days you needed 10% down and we had a 18% interest rate mortgage and a assumed second mortgage at 22 %. We both sold our cars, my beloved 1967 Camaro RS/SS and her 1969 Beaumont Custom to raise the money. We totally renovated that home mostly before we moved in with new shingles, new windows, new baseboard, doors, paint, carpet, refurbished hardwood flooring, new eavestrough and soffit, new countertops, painted cupboards, and locks.
  • Jackie and Keith went without me ( I was in Ft Mac selling) and the two of them bought our entire living room furniture ( couches, chairs, tables, lamps) and kitchen table and chairs without me seeing it from the Brick.
  • Keith & I when Jackie was at work went and bought our entire master bedroom furniture without her seeing it. A complete waterbed set with dressers, tables etc from a wonderful lady sales rep I still remember today named Flo.
  • A year after moving into our home I was driving down Whyte Ave and saw a black Corvette on the lot. I bought it and picked up Jackie from work that evening in it and her only comment was ” Nice car”
  • On a vacation three years after getting married in Penticton ( Audrey & Alan came in their vehicle along with us) Jackie and Audrey had too much to drink and Jackie came into our tent (I had gone to bed earlier) and to this day I still can’t recall the specifics but she got pregnant. All I know it was a good night on my part as it resulted in twins
  • Having to lose my Camaro for a house and now having to give up my Corvette to get the twins home from the hospital hurt.
  • Bought a new house and moved into it in St Alberta 3 years after our first. More than what we really could afford but a beautiful home that over the next years we completely reno’d also.
  • Having twins was unique. The attention we would get at the stores was incredible. A lot of work but more than double the fun.
  • Memories- Tor hitting a car on her bike, getting stopped for speeding and the girls crying thinking the cop is taking me to jail, having to spell Slurpee so they wouldn’t know where I was going, stupid is a bad word, fingers caught in car doors and school doors, scratching their name in the window sill at daycare, Jackie throwing Jess up into the water going down a waterslide, wasps in the backseat of the car and Jess jumping out of boat due to wasps at Pine Lake, camping from 1 yr old until now, Tor’s front tooth kept falling out, Jessica’s homemade dimple, Jessica falling into a campfire pit, both girls falling down stairs, gun and skeleton behind our house, Mom we are 7 yrs old, black tongue, smashed over the head by a Gremlin, scary Ikea mouse mask, rear window blowout on Jeep, choking incident, getting robbed downtown and at Blimpies, vacations galore, sitting on Janet’s pants with mud all over them.
  • Life is funny we had our large home St Albert when Sterling Dists ( 75 yrs plus ) went broke and I had to find another job quick. A found a great company Marshall Wells ( 100 years plus) and a couple years later again it went broke so had to find another work place quickly ending up at Henderson’s. Each new place did raise my salary but it is scary with a young family and needing money to live. There were a lot of tight months leading into years as daycare alone was like $700 or more a month.
  • Moving to Calgary without Jackie and eating hotdogs in the park at least three days a week with the girls and Samson riding our bikes to Fish Creek. Getting home from work exhausted with the responsibilities of being a new General Manager.
  • Jackie and I over the 44 years have so many wonderful memories of trips we have taken together. So many which in hindsight now we were and are so fortunate to have done.
  • We opened a Blimpies Subs in 2000 and sold it 2005. Best Franchise Awards, Best Rookie Franchise Awards , Most Beautiful Restaurant Award
  • In 44 years we have had 5 dogs, Penny, Sadie, Samson, Teddy and Daisy. ( Daisy is my fav)
  • 2007 was a big year for us as we sold our Calgary home, bought a Calgary condo, and bought our Arizona home. The kids all were out of the house and in fact Victoria was married in 2007 also.
  • Jessica got married in 2013
  • 3 grandkids later with Jackson, August and Atticus.
  • We had a big wedding with 100 for supper and additional 140 guests for our reception. Jackie did a huge amount of work but also I did a lot to make this happen. Jackie and her maids hand made all of the flowers for the cars. We organized for the suit rentals ( owner yells at his beautiful daughters to come check me out as he had never seen arms my long ) . Jackie on a budget had a dress making day with her girls for the bride maids, Jackie & I decorated both wedding vehicles ourselves the morning of our wedding, beer kegs for our wedding was brilliant, we decorated the hall the evening before and had a supper at Audrey’s, we used Peters car and my friend Gary Leedahls company vehicle as our wedding cars

To sum it up I would not change a thing. No regrets, a few disappointments with hindsight but we have had an amazing life together and hopefully another good 20 years. By then I may have Jackie all trained up.

One final thought on our anniversary. Jackie, nor I asked each other to marry. It sort of just happened. We tease each other every time we see a TV show with a fancy proposal that ours was just like that.

We best thing to come out of our marriage is :

To the next 20. I say 20 but that may be pushing it as I do NOT want and I will NOT be either a cognitive impaired or physically impaired person that requires help or be a burden to spouse, family or society.

As it was not a “special year” the anniversary was celebrated by cards, flowers and a date night to the Keg. I love the Keg and it is a hard place to beat for the price and taste. I was spoiled by our neighbors Caesar as the Keg’s didn’t hold a candle to Michelle’s. Jackie’s salmon looked great and my steak was awesome. Sitting on the deck outside in the warmth enjoying the food and company was divine.

We attempted to figure out the what who why each group were out on the patio, We had a new younger couple on a date night that was fun to watch, we had two business guys stop in for an after work drink and bite, we had a group of horse people and we had one couple we could not figure out. He was sitting at the table when the lady came up to him and he stood up shook her hand. It appeared to be first date but he seemed about 10 years older than her so confused us. Couldn’t guess this couple.

The Keg was busy except for on the deck which only had four tables filled. Lucky us to have the luxury of no noise or crowding while others were packed inside.

If you mark celebration on your reservation the Keg gives you one free dessert to share. One HUGE Billy Miner Pie for us was exceptional.

FULL and enjoyable !

A nice day celebrating which is always nice.

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 19 degrees, Calgary 15 degrees”

Rain in the forecast what is new. And it came. Heavy rain, thunder and lightning. In the afternoon not evening. I wonder if Oasis will have the irrigation on ? Plants may get a bit too much water. LOL

Reservoirs are nearing full levels so we should be good for a bit if it gets hot and all summer if the weather stays the same as it has been since April 1st . Worst spring I remember. Summer is only a few days away and only 4 or so days over 20.

Checked our list for stuff to bring on the houseboat for the upcoming weekend. This will a fun trip and adventure with all of the family on Lake Koocanusa. I checked the weather and we should be 24 plus each day. Mooring at night, fire on the beach, playing Uno, fishing, jumping into the lake via the waterslide or swimming the middle of the lake will be a blast. BBQ at night and being pulled in the blowup behind the boat. Looking forward to it. Even two dogs on the boats.

So rain today, What do we do ? No use sitting in the gazebo or motorhome so we decided to stay home watch a bit of the Open and the Oiler game.

We haven’t washed for a bit so Jackie snuck in a washing load.

Daisy is wonderful as the thunder doesn’t bug her at all.

I won’t say anything about the Oiler game other than nice not get swept and about McCry Baby’s record. Check out the number of games compared to Wayne’s. Media overblown again. If you play a way more games you are going to get more points. A tainted record yet still impressive. .And something to think about. Has anyone considered that the Panthers may have wanted to win the cup at HOME ?.

I thought this from Clint Eastwood was amazing:

Do not look for luxury in watches or bracelets, do not look for luxury in forks or sails.

Luxury is laughter and friends, luxury is rain on your face, luxury is hugs and kisses.

Don’t look for luxury in shops, don’t look for it in gifts, don’t look for it at parties, don’t look for it at events.

Luxury is being loved by people, luxury is being respected, luxury is having parents alive, luxury is being able to play with your grandchildren, luxury is what money can’t buy.

Happy Fathers Day

Once again a day for me to remember that special Dad I was blessed to have. I always found it interesting how people at funerals or even people remembering their childhood how everyone remembers how good the people were. Our memories fail all of us which is good as it is always nice to keep fond memories in the fore front. Yet in reality in a lot of cases, a lot, it is a warped memory that is not overall true. Having said that I can say absolutely without doubt and backed by numerous witnesses my Dad Jesse Willard could not have been a better Dad. He did not swear, did not drink, did not smoke, was fit and thin, wonderful humor, did not anger and in fact we NEVER saw him ever get angry, was not judgmental, loved to tease, brilliant mind and anyone that met him loved him. We were very very lucky.

The weather was ugly again today with COLD, WIND and rain. The weather is just not cooperating. We were so lucky to get to sit on the patio last night while it was semi warm. Not so much today.

A great fathers day for myself with a breakfast made, a supper made and a fun afternoon at the Banquet.

It was a lot of fun bowling 10 pin. I forgot how heavy the balls are. We played one complete cycle with the Dads killing the others. Corey was the overall winner. I had one bad frame and he had a strike on the last to take the lead. The second sequence the scores were close but can’t count something that wasn’t completed.

The Dads number 1 and 2.

The waitress we had was awesome. The beer extra cold and the bowling a lot of fun.

This picture below kills me. Jackson for some reason has let his hair bangs grow so long you cant see his eyes or face. Justin Beiber like. I was teasing him we can’t see your face so may as well cover it up.

Watching the end of the US OPEN was awesome. The Irish Leprechaun blew up and my guy held his own and won. Talk about irony where the angry mouth piece of the PGA gets beat by a LIV player he loathes.

It was a great match and love it when things align.

I think this may help the PGA resolve it’s issue with LIV or at least get the OWR consider a change to their ranking system.

I fun day, a nice Father’s day, another cold wet day and all one can say is life is good.

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 14 degrees, Calgary 13 degrees “

4 days to summer, 4 only spring like days this 2023 so far and frost warnings tonight. Yahoo !

I headed out to the lot to start readying for our trip to BC and family houseboat trip. Everyone is excited to go and I know it will be fun. I have checked the weather and we are looking at mid 20 range or more each day which will be nice. I am sure the lake water will still be freezing though but these boys are tough and the higher air temperatures will help.

Ours sleeps 14 people, 3 separate standup bedrooms, 2 sitting bedrooms, plus fold out couches, 2 bathrooms, water slide, BBQ, 8 person hot tub on top deck, 40 inch TV, bikini top, large kitchen, and fireplace in the living room. Now they are not inexpensive by any means unless you have max’d out the amount of people. In fact as much a cruise ship for one but worth every penny to have the family all together having fun. Looking forward to it.

I have said this before. I bought a new garden hose for my irrigation system as my “homemade one” with gear clamps blew apart. I get out there today and my new hose from Home Depot blew apart. Expensive CHEAPLY made Chinese crap. I bought the more expensive one and it blows apart. I will return it tomorrow. I will install a pressure regulator and try again. I paid $39 for a hose and would pay $59 for a good one if they have !!!! Brass head and ends and still blew off.

I worked all day getting ready with complications. This time a water issue. I am positive if our potable water was checked it would not pass. My screen filter was completed plugged with leaf debris and this is in our drinking water line. I had to go thru a whole analysis to figure what the issue was. Wouldn’t you know the plugged filter screen was the last item checked. It had to be no water, no pressure, check valve broke, plugged line to tank, line filter bypass not working or other. Takes time and lots of in and out and up and down. Finally got it all fixed and pressurized the system to check.

I took off the sunshades from the windows, removed the UV protectors from the tires, lifted the levelers and removed the blocks, pulled in both slides and installed the travelling security bars. I made a list of everything in the motorhome we will use on the house boat like sleeping bags, paper plates, cups, paper towels etc.

I started it up and ran it for a bit in neutral and drive with the brakes on so all ready to head into town when I remove the electrical plug. I was going to wash it in Strathmore but they are under water restrictions also so can’t. So a dirty motorhome on the road which I hate.

Came home and couldn’t even go for a walk as it was blowing, cold and wet outside.

Frost warnings for tonight, snow the last few days near the mountains and snow near Priddis just a few miles southwest of us.

They say our drought is off for now but give us a few weeks of hot weather and we will be cut off again.

Thought of the Day

I have many hidden talents.  I just wish I could remember where I hid them.

Mercury Forecast Edmonton 15 degrees, Calgary 10 degrees, Mesa 39 degrees,”

Looking at the temperatures above all I can say is I miss Mesa. We are supposed to get to 10 degrees but my car gauge only said 9 every time I was in it. Cold, rain and wind. A lovely spring day.

I added Mesa for inspiration. I have checked south BC for next week and it looks like we are going to get lucky. Perhaps even get a sun burn !!

I returned my defective garden hose with out hassle ( no receipt) and replaced it with a longer one than I wanted but a HEAVY DUTY one. Not my favorite color as I like black but I will give it a try. Heavy duty so I removed my pressure regulator as it should handle the pressure. That is the one thing I hate with the “dumb” times the irrigation is on. I do not get the chance to adjust or check it out as most days I have left. Hopefully in July I can get it all done. I have one week at Jessica’s that I want to do and some fishing days so will squeeze it in.

I hooked up my rain barrel downpipe. When I get back I will cut a hole in the lid to keep the leaves out and install a over flow outlet with soaker hose.

It was cold enough that my fingers turned white. It better get warm and stay warm soon as when you think about we only have less than 12 weeks left of warm weather this summer.

Weather, illness, pains seems to be the topics of choice. I commit today, this will be the last time for awhile I will mention poor weather as it is annoying to myself. I will try to move the conversation to something of importance rather than someone’s knee pain, or not feeling well etc. Manifestation of inclinations, repetitive conjuring of illness or pain, inevitably results in a negative outcome.

I got home and relaxed a bit, warmed up and getting ready to meet Jeff & Wendy at Dixon’s Pub to watch the Oilers game and catch up. I hope they have tans . LOL

It was interesting visiting with them and looking at the pics from their trip. It is a beautiful part of the world and their trip sounded like they had a very wonderful time with lots of history visited, food experiences, culture awakenings and sight seeing. Everything went well which is great as you never know when booking what you really are getting. When you have multiple bookings for hotel, B&B’s rental cars etc things sometimes go sideways but they had smooth sailing. Two small hiccups with Jeff catching a flu bug right at the beginning of the trip and being quite ill one night and Jeff falling off the stairs into a thorn bush. Could happen anywhere. No wine involved.

There was only one comment I would question for myself and that was they thought it was maybe too long. In my mind 3 weeks is a way too short in fact when still working we took 3 week vacations to Europe. I have NEVER in my life experienced a get away where I wanted it to end and always felt it would be nice to stay longer. To each their own. I could stay in Greece, or any place in Europe for three months like nothing. I have known people that have gone to Mexico or the Caribbean and only stayed one week. It takes that long to settle in, and getting to know where the wash room is. And cost wise, in most cases especially with short trips the majority of the expense is flights so why not amortize that over three weeks and save money and have a better experience.

I think one big difference now for us is we do not “vacation” during the winter we just move to a warmer climate home. If you are not doing that I would assume a longer vacation would be a want and i would think mid winter. Our “vacations” per say are the cruises we fit in which are usually 10 to 15 day events and our summer get aways. Until I run short of cash or get ill, I never want to spend a winter in Canada.

The dog is an issue for us now though for long trips. Summer no issues, winter no issues but taking a “Vacation” the length of time is a big concern.

Most impressed with Jackie tonight in ordering something off the menu a way out of her comfort zone and actually consuming TWO drinks. Wild girl. She was very good at defending the Oilers against the wave of Flame fans.

The best team tonight won. The refs were not a factor even though power play goals were had but the calls was good. Skinner played well, Mc Cry Baby played well and the result was a solid win. Bobrovsky did not play exceptionally well.

Next game even though a elimination game for the Oilers the pressure is on the Panthers now not to let the series become tied. This will be an interesting game to watch. First goal always a factor now being sudden death.

A fun night, fun to catch up and a good hockey game all made better with great tasting food and cold beer.

Thought of the Day

Never let success to get to your head and never let failure get to your heart. Game 6 now is the goal.

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 18 degrees, Calgary 16 degrees,”

Jackie had a whack of commitments again today so I took Daisy for her morning walk. She was successful in her endeavors fairly soon which was nice.

I noticed today a huge change in the workplace and it is great to see.

Hughes Landscaping had a 5 person crew with three of them being young women. I will say this . The job will be done slower but with more precision and for sure less equipment breakdowns compared to the young lads.

About a block away a home was getting a new roof. A 5 person crew again with two ladies. There are a lot of jobs required in roofing where strength in not a requirement. The young ladies were forking the old shingles off, piling them and dropping them, picking up strays and nails and they could air nail the new ones one. Nice to see the industry changing.

I had a few young women work in my warehouses and they all excelled at their job. A huge benefactor was also the guys seemed to work harder to show off.

“Memories”

A young lady named Carrie was working in the warehouse and using a Olfa knife to open a package and sliced herself deep. I don’t know why I didn’t call 911 but we used our First Aid kit and packaged it up and I said I would drive her to urgent care. I put a plastic Safeway bag over the bandage for blood if needed. We needed it. By the time we got to the urgent care Carrie’s face was white and the plastic bag half full of blood. Gross i hate blood. A few stitches later she was back at work albeit a bit modified.

Daisy and I went to the “big dog” park today and she had a blast. We made a full two circles around it meeting many cool dogs and some interesting people. A dog sittings service had about 10 dogs there and it is so funny as wow are there ever a difference in looks between all of the different types of dogs. Only one dog would chase Daisy though. One comment saying it looks like she is smiling i took as a compliment. I could take that as negative but I just smiled and said yes she is friendly. All the time thinking that darn overbite is going to cost me $1000 for teeth cleaning. She had fun, we had fun and other than a little breezy quite nice out. I had to laugh as two dogs found a mud hole and were drinking out of it and came back their owners very muddy.

Nothing planned tonight except for the odd show and relax.

I am not that familiar with the inner workings of the NHL and a team like Calgary. But it appears to me we have lost big time in trades in recent years with a mass exodus of quality players with very little in return. Now Markstrom which is a great goalie gone. Wolfe better be hot or we are not making the playoffs again.

Thought of the Day

Winning is like the icing on the cake of life – it makes everything sweeter.

June 20th-21st

“Mercury Forecast Edmonton 22 degrees, Calgary 20 degrees”

Summer Solstice, longest day of the year and first day of summer and we have a wonderful sunny day. Maybe just maybe

Well, the evitable happened with me having the third highest golf score today since a game in 2007. ( 17 yrs ago ) I notice then the next game was a 81 which I like so hopefully the same happens this time. I couldn’t drive, sliced, lost three balls, couldn’t hit a iron shot or pitch but I did putt ok. It was one of those games where I wanted it to end. No Mas ! Nothing went right at all.

Now my playing partners had good games. Two great games and one ok game. I think they were shocked as much as I in what was happening. Needless to say I did not make money and lost money to them. I loved the day, had fun but hated the golfing.

What could the reason be ? I won’t make excuses but if I was to explain what the reasons were I would say not golfing enough the main culprit. To golf once a week does not allow you any feel and comfort level on your shots. I would say my stiffness did not help and I would say my LOFT was also a factor. No warm up as the driving range is out of order is another factor were you can make adjustments.

Past, done, over with it. Worse game in 17 years but at least not the worst ever ! When we get back I will start to play a lot more. Too bad our trip is ending on the long weekend or we could have stayed extra days. Too many campers nowadays so we won’t bring our clubs as we are room limited.

Daisy wanted to play so she received all of her toys at one time on the couch. I think it confused her.

Up this morning and right after toast and coffee of to the lot. I double checked everything and readied everything and headed into town with the motorhome.

I had 3/4 full of gas but thought gas has to be cheaper here than Cranbrook etc so I may as well fill up. Being at the 3/4 level I didn’t expect to take it a lot. $250 later I have a full tank. Caught me of guard that a 1/4 tank would cost me that much.

I hate that I can’t wash the motorhome with everything closed down. It is like Covid 102.

I purposely parked right in front of the condo owners unit I believe wrote me the nasty note. Made me smile.

Tor and Jackie went to Costco this morning to pick up the food for our week houseboat trip. I was fearful of not getting ” good” food but was impressed with the selection. Hamburgers, hot dogs, bacon, eggs, hash browns, sirloin beef roast, potatoes, greens so we will eat very well. $ 600 of food doesn’t look like a lot as it adds up real quick. I think it was the snacks that put it over the top.

Everything is ready to hit the road.

Jeff & Wendy met us at Berwicks to watch the Oiler game. Let me start by saying I predicted or wished and is is logged back in here some where, for the final to go the seventh game with the Oilers losing in overtime. So far right on target.

Tonight’s game once again the Oilers were much better than the Panthers. I know it is impossible to believe in conspiracy theory’s about Bettman wanting it to go to 7 as no professional player would ever allow that but it just seems so odd with the way the series has gone. Good for Edmonton.

Will the Edmonton that played the first 20 games of the season and the Edmonton that played the first three games of the final show up or will the team that played that last half of the season and the last three games. Who knows.

The bar was full tonight so hockey did bring people out to the bar.

Jeff & Wendy are always fun to be around for these kinds of events. Everyone’s meal was excellent, the excitement in the bar was great, the drinks cold, loads of TV’s with the sound on and fun with friends sipping on our beer.

What was odd though as Jeff & I were only able to get 4 beer for three periods. I didn’t notice this but our waitress must have been slow. I think 2 per period should be mandatory.

Now we have to find a way to watch TV on the lake. Hopefully the kids will figure a way. Even if it costs a few bucks it will be worth it to watch the game and overtime.

FUN NIGHT !

It has been a long time since I ordered chicken wings ( Franks Hot) and I have to say I loved them. I remember though years ago wings being 10 cents a piece now they charge by the pound $18 and you only get about 10 to 12.

You know your friends are getting old when they want to split their plates. I prefer to order mine and Jackie order hers and if leftovers bring them home. We have three couple that do this so I guess it ages them or defines them as extra frugal. But on any given day to want to eat exactly want someone else does is unbelievable. And in Canada the portion sizing is never large.

“Memories”

We went to Ricky’s a few years ago with Michael and Audrey and the special was a turkey meal. One of my favorite meals. Being a special etc I thought I better order two of them as they are going to be small. Let me tell you I was FULL as they had loaded up the meat and potatoes. Satisfied and wonderful tasting. Lesson learned.

June 22nd to June 29th

Week long trip to Lake Koocanusa on a houseboat as a family trip.

Most likely no wifi and no data so I will catch up as I can when I can.

Back today after a very fun filled exciting family trip. A June trip with great weather is usually difficult but we had some some amazing days and a couple of nice days but over cast. It will take me awhile to put all of this together relying on memory and pictures to load etc.

Jackie & I loaded up the motorhome and headed to Cor & Tor’s place to pick them up and load their stuff including Hazel. She is a large dog. It is amazing how much stuff one brings for one week. Food alone for 9 people fills every cupboard and fridge compartment. It was a warm 28 degrees when we left and headed down Cowboy Trail. I discovered and thought to myself it maybe a little shorter but due to the hill climbing which is abundant and steep we have to use a way more gas, so coming home I will take the normal way. Having said that the drive down this road is always nice.

Just before Fernie we stop at a road side rest stop for a pee break and a bite to eat. I always like BC stops nested in trees and secluded from the highway. Dog walks , food done we start on our way again. A few miles down the road I look behind me and see Jess & Pen are following us. Talk about perfect timing and pure luck.

We get to our overnight camping spot at Will-O-Bend Resort. I will start by saying the hosts of this campground are amazing. Lura literally runs to help each of us into our spots. She used to run long haul with her husband so she knows how to park, guide and to stand in the mirror line of sight perfect. She even went away out of her way as she brought to us in baggies, ice from the clubhouse.

Jessica did a PERFECT job of backing into her space. She is getting pretty good. She has come a long ways and is in fact a way better than many many urban guys trying to back up.

We got all set up and then take a walk about. This place is immaculate and impeccable in every way. The grass area, flowers, washroom etc. Right behind us was a grass area so we played corn hole and sat in the shade as the dogs intently watched the baby ducks and mother play in the stream feet away from them.

A nice night/ evening which was quite enjoyable. Right on the golf course but between not bringing clubs and the dogs we just watched as players yelled fore amongst the trees. We even saw a 18 inch snake slither across the roadway as we walked. They had a fishing pond so the boys tried their hand at that for a bit but the pond was pretty lame as far as that goes being only 2 ft deep.

Off in the morning and heading down the highway to Lake Koocanusa. It is just south of Javrie. We stopped for ice creams at the store on our our way.

It is quite a drive on a narrow winding road to the border. Jessica was bugging me about driving to slow. I will admit in a 24,000 pound motorhome 12 ft high plus, it does not corner like a 1/2 ton truck pulling a trailer. It also is due to a very narrow road with bush right up the edge where I like to give myself a little lee way for animals popping out and a large number of very rough cattle guards to cross. Coming back to Calgary, this time Jackie says slow down. Same speed same road. ! Can’t win. lol

We arrive at our spot on the lake and get directions at the check in counter. I had done a bit of research on Sunshine Houseboats before coming and new this was an old customers new venture. I relayed to the young girl at the counter that I had visited her house with her Dad’s group for a after golf party for years and years. She went to the house next door and got her Dad out. Brant Cullum.

” Memories “

Brant was the owner of the Beaver Lumber Store in Cranbrook and held a annual golf tournament at the Golf & Country Club for invited suppliers and customers. This was an excellent store for us being a large customer as they were busy and the purchasing agent Brian ( Tonto) was excellent to deal with. Brant every year would sing “Danny Boy”. He was spectacular at it. The beers helped him and us. We had some wonderful fairly wild parties at his house and at the local pub over the years. Fun great guy.

Brant sold his Beaver Store when the Home Hardware group bought them out and started this business 25 years ago now. I do know he has aged from memories as I guess he might have thought the same thing. Nice to see him and reminiscence.

They are very organized and all of the staff are exceptional. Very friendly and helpful.

We parked and unloaded and then loaded our stuff on the boat. It took at least 5 trips to bring everything down to the water. Like I said it is unbelievable how much stuff food and clothes nine people can bring. We had packers by the Rv’s and loaders organizing in the boat. It went quite well and fast.

Our boat was wonderful. Newer, well appointed, and large. In fact they use a marine pilot service to allow us to leave the dock. Jackie & I had the back bedroom, Cor & Tor one of the side bedrooms and Jess & Pen the other side bedroom which all were good sizing. Jackson and August each had there own bedroom upstairs ( couldn’t stand up though) and Atti had a cuppy just off the living room as his bedroom. Worked out perfect. I did have to laugh though with Hazel stretched out in bed it left NO room for Tor & Cor.

After our ” lessons” on everything we were off.

Our first priority was to find a anchoring point where we had a strong signal to watch the game. After travelling about an hour or more north on the lake, and right across from some huge homes in a village, our data signal was good.

Jessica had figured out how to use her phone as a hot spot , had downloaded the two apps needed and brought her firestick for the TV. The Tv caused us a few issues but by lowering it off the stand we were able to hook it up and YAHOO! GREAT SIGNAL and we could watch the game.

Before the game I BBQ’d hot dogs and hamburger and along with all of the fixings and Costco sized potato salad had an excellent meal.

Jackson fished off the back of the boat which was over 25 ft deep water and lo & behold he caught a trout. He was so proud and we all were happy. I will say this that from my perspective trout are one of the more difficult species to catch as they are fickle. He is a dedicated fisherman so nice to see.

We watched the game and I was surrounded with Oiler paraphernalia and supporters. It was a great game. I wanted the Oilers to win and I did not want the Oilers to win. I find the fan base of Edmonton quite annoying. So after all is said and done I am happy the Oilers did not win. Perhaps it is Mc Cry Baby that spoils the whole take for me on this team. I do believe they played good enough to be the winners but it didn’t happen.

What Mc Cry Baby did by not going out on the ice to accept an award is incomprehensible and inexcusable. A heavy fine should be levied and it is the perfect example of a spoiled little kid behaving badly. Not a good example of our young children. Between Mc Cry Baby Connor and the Leprechaun Rory it is no wonder our sport kids are screwed up. If Connor pissed off the hockey gods enough and he never wins a Stanley Cup this will become his legacy and karma wins again. The ONLY player ever in history to SNUB the NHL that made him a millionaire by not accepting the MVP . I believe a large portion of his supporters may have left his pony show.

You all know about the young lady who had her 5 minutes of fame referred to as Oilers Boob lady and they created a special logo for her. Now looking at it, it is sort of fitting as they look like tears which we all know are abundant amongst the Oiler faithful.

Having said this we all had fun watching the game with special thanks to Jess for getting it up and running.

The weather was so perfect at 28 to 30 degrees. The next morning Cory and I made a full campers breakfast of sausage, bacon, hashbrowns and Jackie made scrambled eggs. I love these breakfasts.

Hot out already and the kids jumped on the pull along for a long ride. They had a blast. Then we stopped the boat and the water slide was in full use. I think Atti was the only kid that didn’t go down it. The water was cold so when people hit the expressions were funny. All of this lasted for hours. We then started to see people turning red in front of us. Let me tell you there were some very sunburned people.

One of the funniest things is Tor sprayed Cor’s back but did not spread it so he literally had a sunburned S on his back and lots of missed areas bright red along with Jackson’s chest. Penny and Jessica also were burned quite badly even though they did use product. Atti and August just browned.

My order of things may be off but we then headed north and stopped at the marina for ice creams. Tor on her way back to the boat slipped and fell and sacrificed her leg but saved my cone. LOL A nasty scratch and welt. It was a little confusing where to park the boat but after a couple of attempts we ended up near the marina but on the opposite side of the highway.

We had the best lasagna and salad ever. Penny made the pasta and Jackie the salad and it was delicious. A new type of dressing which was awesome.

Plenty of games again which the kids love and plenty of fishing.

Overall with the fishing I am impressed and it provided a lot of laughs, plenty of fun and I am sure memories forever. Victoria had only caught one fish in her life before this trip and ended up catching the most and the biggest. Jessica’s catch makes me laugh every time I watch it. The fishing reel fell out while bringing in a fish and Cory grabbed it and she had the line to bring her fish in. Even Atti caught one. Jackson was very dedicated to fishing and had caught the most fish until Tor pulls in her big one. He loves fishing. As a group we caught 16 trout which is impressive.

That smile is worth everything.

Watch as her reel falls off the rod as she is pulling in her fish.

More hot tub, games, food and fun with beer and drinks thrown in. Here are a few random pictures on some of the fun.

Our last night the boat rocked a bit in stronger winds but other than that is was quite smooth.

The trip was amazing with a wonderful first night stop watching the game, campfire on the beach, corn hole at the park and beach, hot tub, glider ride behind the boat , loads of dice games, water slide rides. Uno and plenty of food and fishing, and most of all fun and laughing. I will rephrase that , a way too much food but everything else perfect.

The kids overall were very good. One small incident but that happens.

Expensive, a lot, a lot of fun, great memories that will last for a long time and a wonderful family get together. We are very lucky to enjoy times like this.

Jessica, Victoria, Corey, Penny, Jackson, Atticus, August, Hazel, and Daisy along with Jackie and I on the great trip. I know, I thoroughly enjoyed it with everyone’s help and involvement it was awesome.

On the way home we took a wrong turn. I am pretty good at remembering how we turned at corners etc but this time I was turned around and even Google screwed up sending us to a wrong address. We pulled into this mans property and he came out. Jessica was right behind us and a car behind her. We tell him we took a wrong turn and he said we are the 4th car today coming into his place in error and this is private property. Not angry most likely just annoyed.

A quick stop in Javrie and on our way home. In Coleman I am going to say I have NEVER seen the highway so busy. I have driven that highway while working and vacationing perhaps a 100 times and NEVER this busy. There are two stop lights in Coleman on the main highway #3 and the cars were backed up over 5 miles straight. 5 MILES at least. Even Hwy 2 to Calgary was busy much like Hwy 2 north of Calgary. Too many people coming to Alberta. Having said that we have waited too long for summer to come I think people are just house bound and want a outing.

Not pulling the Jeep we only used $350 worth of gas on a 8 hour drive trip so pretty good.

We dropped off the Waldies and unpacked our stuff and settled down.

Here is photo drop of our trip

LOVING LIFE.

Thought of the Day

Family and travel a perfect combo !

June 30th

” Mercury Forecast Edmonton 24 degrees, Calgary 18 degrees”

Seemed cool then warm then hot. Quite a weird day weather wise. Still not summer weather, yet I see in a week finally, Just in time for the Stampede.

I headed up to the Flying J to fill up the propane tank on the motorhome and then headed out the lot.

No carwashes available so I washed it at the lot. Pressure washed, rubbed with brush and then pressure washed with soap. The road grime is sticky and it took three washes and still not perfect but looking good.

I trimmed the grass, mowed the grass, deadheaded the flowers, trimmed the neighbors lot, hooked up my irrigation again after a spigot run over by a tree cutting truck and powered up the coach.

Three washes on a 13ft tall by 32ft long unit gets to the arms. The lot is looking pretty good, as is the upcoming weather so I will spend more time out there.

MY RANT

The stupidity of unions in our workplaces is asinine. The union representing the engineer mechanics at WestJet agreed to binding arbitration. THEN strike. It is so wrong it is beyond belief. I have not been a fan of Westjet since being owned by Onex but in this case I feel sorry for them. Stupid part is the compensation package would have made them the highest paid in the industry. But they want more than money. They want to change the industry. Give me a break. They all forget WestJet does not pay their salary the public does and by striking the potential of losing customers forever impacting bottom line will impact the ability of the company to preserve their jobs and give pay increases.

UNIONS ARE THE CANCER OF BUSINESSES.

Unions create entitled people, laziness, reduce productivity, create stagnant creativity, increase operating costs and disrupts the desire to want to do well. Any chance any company can dissolve a union everyone from customers to staff benefit.

My hope is of the 100,000 people impacted by this unions stupidity that the largest percentage of them are unions workers from other industries and it may help them understand the ” all about me” doesn’t work in the corporate world or even have a place in our society.

” Memories”

We had one branch vote in a union in our wholesale building material distribution company. Luckily we had an aggressive and smart businessman leading the company so we literally closed the branch, fired everyone, and shipped product into the market place from hundreds of miles away for years before reopening a non union shop. The vote was caused by a incompetent general manager in place. A very similar thing just about happened in Edmonton.

Pay equal or more than the industry standard with benefits there is NO BENEFIT to join a union and pay dues. In todays world we have so many worker regulations to protect them enforced by the government a union is some what redundant.

I was just catching up on Facebook and it is so nice to see how much fun everyone had on our family trip. It will be interesting in years to come to see if Atticus remembers meeting Mickey Mouse or catching his first fish on the houseboat.
